"The Catherine Window"

"The Catherine Window" by Natalia Bondarenko

Natalia’s necklace, The Catherine Window, is made of wire-wrapped sterling silver and features a central gemstone with jaw dropping AAA oro verde (or green gold lemon quartz) briolette, surrounded by carved rubelite garnet leaves, faceted full drops of lapis lazuli, and teensy ‘mystic’ quartz rondelles. Joined to a generous length of chain using the deepest navy Akoya saltwater pearls, the design is finished with a hand forged ‘s’ clasp and a length of extension chain with a lapis briolette as a dangle. The entire piece was heavily oxidised and lightly rubbed back. The pendant measures 32mm x 32mm, while the chain measures an adjustable 58.5 – 65cm in length.

Natalia’s ‘The Catherine Window’, is inspired by her love of stained glass elements often used in Gothic architecture and reflects the enchanting rich colours of this style.

  1. I love the Catherine Window necklace because it is not only a breathtaking piece of jewellery, but an amazing piece of art too.
The colours of the gemstones which Natalia has picked complement each other beautifully and create a wonderful image of a “stained glass window”.

  2. I like Natalia’s ‘The Catherine Window’ for different reasons.
First of all: nostalgia. It made me think of one of my first French lessons when I was in art school. The subject was the Cathedral in Chartres with its famous stained glass windows . The pictures were breathtaking and filled me with joy. Colors jumping right at you and drawing you in – just like the colors in this pendant.
Second reason: something that you consider art is best held closely to your heart.
Third reason: it looks like a mandala. Together with the soothing colors, it gives the impression of peace and calm.
Fourth reason: I’m a big fan of her work and would love to own a piece made by her two hands.

    Cleo
